Rock icons to play at Mahalia Jackson Theater on April 27th
The Moody Blues will launch their 2011 U.S. tour nationwide kicking off on April 27, 2011 at the Mahalia Jackson Theater in New Orleans and will continue through June 11. The band, whose legacy spans four decades of hit-making and sell-out tours, will continue to entertain audiences with their timeless music. Says the New York Post of their live show: "The rockers played a set that reminded the sold-out Music Hall why (The Moody Blues are) one of the most important rock acts to ever come out of the U.K. ... the trio looked remarkably sound and sounded untouched by time..." Echoes USA Weekend: "Fans were on their feet applauding great music from a great rock n' roll band with staying power beyond anybody's 'wildest dreams.'" Says the St. Louis Post Dispatch: "The Moodies depend on nostalgic memories of their fans' youth, but they also know that in the present, these songs can still move the listener."
The Moodies' legendary hit "Nights In White Satin" originally released in 1967 from their landmark "Days Of Future Passed" album, just landed at #2 on the UK Rock Chart, and at #27 on the BBC Radio 1 chart, making it the fourth time that "Nights" has charted in its 40-plus year history. The song's resurgence ignited from a recent smash cover performance by Matt Cardle, current winner of Simon Cowell's hit UK show "The X Factor."
The Moody Blues have sold in excess of 70 million albums worldwide and have been awarded an astonishing 14 platinum and gold discs. Their incredible roster of hits includes: "Nights In White Satin," "Tuesday Afternoon," "Ride My See Saw," "The Story In Your Eyes," "Isn't Life Strange," "Question," "I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock And Roll Band)," "Your Wildest Dreams," and "I Know You're Out There Somewhere," to name a few. The Moody Blues' No. 1, Top 5, Top 10, Top 20, Top 40, Multi-Platinum, Platinum and Gold albums and singles, have generated sold-out tours on a consistent basis over the course of several decades, making them one of the top-grossing album and touring bands in existence.
Guitarist/vocalist Justin Hayward, bassist/vocalist John Lodge and drummer Graeme Edge, on this tour, will also offer their fans a special opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with them on their exclusive "Storytellers Experiences" and "Backstage Tours" exclusives, which will be available on select tour dates.
The ultimate Moody Blues VIP experiences now available to fans, will give them the rare opportunity to join the rock legends pre-show, telling some of their wildest personal stories and recounting decades of international performances to an intimate group of fans. The exclusive "Storytellers Experiences" will be available to purchase online at a first-come-first serve basis, and will take place before three select performances: Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Houston, Texas on April 29; The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino / The Joint in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 13; and at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Oregon on June 3.
At many of the 2011 selected concerts (dates to be announced), fans can also experience the Moody Blues' "Backstage Tour" which includes a tour of the stage in which fans can meet some of the crew, see the band's instruments and perhaps catch a glimpse of the band members themselves.

Lil Wayne and Reggie Bush Join Field for Chris Paul PBA Celebrity Invitational
The pro/celebrity event will air on ESPN on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 6
Celebrity A-listers competed on the lanes with professional bowlers for charity last week. Hip-hop giants Lil Wayne and Nelly, along with New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush joined five PBA champions and host Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets for the third annual Chris Paul PBA Celebrity Invitational at Riverboat Lanes on the New Orleans Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base.
The pro/celebrity doubles event, which supports Paul's charitable CP3 Foundation, will air on ESPN on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 6 at 4 p.m. ET, for the third straight year as part of the PBA's TV schedule.
Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour stars participating were PBA Hall of Famers Pete Weber and Norm Duke, former PBA Rookies of the Year Jason Belmonte and Rhino Page, and former PBA Player of the Year Wes Malott, all members of Storm Products Pro Staff.
The standing-room-only crowd consisted of personnel from all four branches of the military and their families from the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base.
"The Chris Paul PBA Celebrity Invitational has grown to be one of our most anticipated events every year," said PBA Deputy Commissioner Tom Clark. "Chris and his superstar friends love bowling with our stars and the PBA is proud to partner with the Paul family on behalf of the CP3 Foundation, which continues to brighten kids' lives."
In the doubles competition, Weber paired with fellow St. Louis native Nelly, Duke teamed up with Lil Wayne, and Malott and Bush were an imposing pairing. Belmonte and Paul partnered in an effort to defend their title. The teams competed in a stepladder finals for the unique Chris Paul PBA Celebrity Invitational trophy. Page took on the four celebrities in a new "Super Clash" shootout to kick off the festivities.
NBA superstar LeBron James and the PBA's Jason Couch teamed up to win the inaugural Chris Paul PBA Celebrity Invitational in 2008. Other celebrities who have competed in the event's history include Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant, Ludacris, Lamar Woodley, Jack Del Rio and Hines Ward.
Paul founded his CP3 Foundation in 2005 as a tribute to his late grandfather and the Winston-Salem, N.C., community where he grew up and starred at Wake Forest. The foundation has provided funding for activities ranging from a scholarship program to food drives to recreational support programs for underprivileged children in both Winston-Salem and New Orleans.
Paul, an avid bowler who frequently refers to bowling as his "second-favorite sport," is on his way to another NBA All-Star season. Both Lil Wayne and Nelly are Grammy-award winning artists with new recordings currently at the top of the Billboard charts. Former USC star Bush helped the Saints win their first Super Bowl title earlier in 2010.

Dr. John to be inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Today, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced the Alice Cooper Band, Neil Diamond, Dr. John, Darlene Love and Tom Waits as its 2011 performer inductees. Also being inducted this year as individual recipients of the Ahmet Ertegun Award are Jac Holzman and Art Rupe. The Award for Musical Excellence (previously the Sidemen category) will be presented to Leon Russell. The 26th annual ceremony will take place on Monday, March 14, 2011, at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City and be broadcast on Fuse, Madison Square Garden's national music television network.
The 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performer inductees were chosen by more than 500 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. Artists are eligible for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first recording.
All inductees are ultimately represented in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. Through approaches as creative and diverse as the music itself, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum tells the story of rock music with its exhibits, education programs and Library and Archives.
Presenters and performers at the induction will be announced at a later date.

Dr. John, or Mac Rebennack as known to friends and family, is universally celebrated as the living embodiment of the rich musical heritage of New Orleans.
His very colorful musical career began in the 1950s when he wrote and played guitar on some of the greatest records to come out of the Crescent City, including recordings by Professor Longhair, Art Neville, Joe Tex and Frankie Ford. A notorious gun incident forced the artist to give up the guitar and concentrate on organ and piano.
Further trouble at home sent Dr. John west in the 1960s, where he continued to be in demand as a session musician, playing on records by Sonny and Cher, Van Morrison, Aretha Franklin and The Rolling Stones infamous Exile on Main Street, to name a few.
During that time he also launched his solo career, developing the charismatic persona of Dr. John The Night Tripper. Adorned with voodoo charms and regalia, a legend was born with his breakthrough 1968 album Gris-Gris, which established his unique blend of voodoo mysticism, funk, rhythm & blues, psychedelic rock and Creole roots.
Several of his many career highlights include the masterful album The Sun, Moon and Herbs in 1971 which included cameos from Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger and 1973's In The Right Place, which contained the chart hits "Right Place Wrong Time" and "Such A Night."
Dr. John garnered Grammy award wins in 1989 (for "Makin' Whoopee!"), 1992 (Goin' Back To New Orleans), 1996 ("SRV Shuffle") and 2000 ("Is You Is, Or Is You Ain't My Baby").
In 2004, his musical love letter to the city of New Orleans, N'Awlinz Dis Dat or D'udda, was awarded the prestigious Académie Charles Cros 57ème Palmarès award in France. It was the first time since the 1970s that an artist from North America received the award.
He has also received six other nominations over the years. In 2007 he was nominated for a Grammy for Sippiana Hericane, his Hurricane Katrina benefit disc.
Other awards include the American Society of Young Musicians 2007 Trailblazer Award.
After Hurricane Katrina and government bunglers bashed New Orleans in 2005, Dr. John immediately stepped up to the plate with both generous relief fund-raising concerts and recordings and angry public words of protest. In 2008 he released City That Care Forgot, an album winning him a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album.
In the August 2010 release, Tribal, Dr. John revisited the classic swampy gris-gris style that put him on the map. Tribal has since received a Grammy nomination in the Best Contemporary Blues Album category (Grammy winners will be announced on February 13, 2011).
After a half century of creating music for others and himself, Dr. John continues to write, arrange, produce and interpret with a passion that has yet to wane. He continues to tour consistently, to the dazzle and delight of audiences across the globe.

Trombone Shorty Adds Fifth Continent To 'Backatown' Tour
Just announced as a 2010 Grammy nominee in the Best Contemporary Jazz Album category for his acclaimed Verve/Forecast debut CD, Backatown, Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, the 24-year-old New Orleans singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and all-around musical powerhouse today announced newly added tour dates in Australia, Singapore and New Zealand. The Australia dates represent the fifth continent that Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue's Backatown World Tour will hit in the first year of release for the Grammy nominated CD. Backatown features the band's trademark "Supafunkrock" sound, an explosive, homegrown blend of funk, rock, R&B and hip-hop that has been exciting audiences worldwide.
This coming week the band returns for headlining dates in Japan where they were a highlight of this Summer's Fuji Rock Festival, a tour that directly preceded the band's debut tour of South America. Coming up in 2011 is a January trip to Jamaica, where Trombone Shorty will sit in with Warren Haynes and Gov't Mule. February brings a package tour of the U.S. with Latin Grammy winners Los Amigos Invisibles, highlighted by dates at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium and a special Grammy-eve show at the Conga Room in Los Angeles. That tour is followed directly by co-headline dates with Galactic in Boston on February 25 and at Terminal 5 in New York on February 26 (Galactic's sax player, Ben Ellman, produced the Backatown CD).
March sees another series of European dates prefacing an even more extensive run of European festivals in the Summer of 2011. Highlights of the April Australasia tour include a feature appearance at the Timbre Rock and Roots Music Festival in Singapore and Australia's Byron Bay Bluesfest, where the band joins International headliners Bob Dylan, B.B. King and Elvis Costello. Renowned festival favorites, the band has a summer already brimming with offers from top festivals across Europe and North America.
Last week, in conjunction with World AIDS Day (December 1), Trombone Shorty curated Red Hot + New Orleans, BAM's third programmatic partnership with the Red Hot organization, the premier music industry nonprofit dedicated to funding AIDS research and awareness. Shorty conducted and performed in two sold-out concerts that featured NOLA legends and fresh voices (Dr. John, Irma Thomas, Kermit Ruffins, Mannie Fresh, Ivan Neville, Partners In Crime, Marc Broussard and Ledisi) capped by a house-rocking, high-energy mini set from Trombone Shorty and his own band, Orleans Avenue. The shows raised much needed funds for New Orleans' NO/AIDS Task Force while artistically they were met with numerous standing ovations from two full houses and unanimous press raves including from Jon Pareles of The New York Times: "Trombone Shorty had clearly set out to present New Orleans as a city whose glory days aren't over ... it was a signal that the city's music would push ahead."
Trombone Shorty has also given approval for his song "Hurricane Season" (from Backatown) to be used by (RED), the ground-breaking AIDS fund-raising initiative. A gratis license has been granted to (RED) so portions of the track can be featured as backing music on new (RED) "Making Of" promotional videos. (Earlier this year, "Hurricane Season" was heard weekly on MTV's The Real World, New Orleans as the opening title track.)
2010 has been a breakout year for Trombone Shorty and his six-piece world-touring band, Orleans Avenue. Backatown debuted at #1 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz chart, holding the top spot for nine weeks and still holding in the top five more than six months later. In the first week of the CD's release the band performed a triumphant set at New Orleans' Jazz Fest with special guest Mystikal, followed the next month by a rousing return to Bonnaroo and a debut performance at the Hollywood Bowl in the Playboy Jazz Festival. Other touring highlights included a historic performance at the 53-year-old Monterey Jazz Festival (topped by breaking the Festival's all-time CD sales record), followed the next month by a cross-Europe tour, highlighted by five shows in the coveted opening slot for Jeff Beck in the U.K. In November Shorty and Orleans Avenue supported Dave Matthews Band on tour. It seems every month has brought new milestones for the group as their reputation for exciting live performances spreads worldwide.
Trombone Shorty's recent TV appearances include The Late Show With David Letterman, The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Austin City Limits, which aired nationwide on PBS. He also has a recurring role on the HBO series Treme.
Trombone Shorty is part of two other 2011 Grammy-nominated projects: his version of "Ooh Pooh Pah Doo" is on Treme, Music From the HBO Original Series, Season One, a nominee for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media; and he plays with Dr. John on "Down in New Orleans" (from Disney's The Princess and the Frog), nominated for Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.
